Upton Bishop Big Dipper 2006 Race Report

Despite the best efforts of the weather to put people off, sixty entered the inaugural running of this 5.6 mile road race. Everyone seemed to enjoy the challenge and hopefully it will become an annual fixture. There was a good mixture of keen club runners and fun runners ranging in age from 21 to 63, with people coming from as far as Halesowen, Bristol and Cardiff to compete. They had to contend with torrential rain, thunder and lightening as well as some testing hills on the circular course which followed country lanes from Upton Bishop to Kempley and back. They were rewarded with excellent marshalling, a unique T shirt and tea and cakes at the Millennium Hall.

The race at the front was a close battle between some good club runners with Tim Clarke of Hereford Couriers making light of the hills to edge out Peter Rigler of Tipton Harriers.

In the ladies, Rachel Hobbs of the British Triathlon Association cruised in first ahead of Alison Cooke of Hereford Couriers who was first lady veteran [over 40].

In the Children's Fun Runs held on the playing field before the main event there wre plenty of smiles but an equally high standard at the front.
